It's been 2 weeks!
I've managed to not buy any groceries for 2 weeks. That must be some kind of record.
Today I slept in, then hit the gym. Saturday is my bike day. I'm working on getting myself into shape enough to bike to and from work on a regular basis. That means being able to cover 20 miles in less than an hour- without becoming a sweaty mess. I managed 14 miles in an hour today.
Breakfast/Lunch was less than ideal. As I said, I was hoping to avoid using whey more than I needed to, but I knew I'd be hungry and I don't have my work kitchen to rely on- so whey it is.
No, it's not actually Primal Fuel, but I love the blender bottle. I just used Wegmans whey, a couple eggs, and some leftover cold coffee from yesterday. It held me over well enough until I got home to eat some real food.
Once home it was time to start playing in the kitchen. I got a hankering for some rice pudding too, so I warmed some up in a pan with some apple butter from the fridge. It was actually pretty tasty!
I'm still trying to figure a way to make rice pudding with a decent amount of protein. That way I can justify eating it for breakfast. So far nothing reasonable has come to mind.
Dinner was absolutely fabulous by mistake. I still have a lot of pork to use, and my last bit of cabbage was starting to look questionable. I figured I better use it, or lose it.
Quick chop on the cabbage, sliced up half an onion I forgot was in the fridge. Fried them together in some boar fat then tossed in the pork. It made a delicious stir fry, made even better topped with wheat-free tamari sauce.
After dinner I had some projects to finish up. I was really full from dinner but kind of wanted something sweet. I decided to eat some pickled watermelon rind.
It wasn't exactly the flavor I was looking for- more tangy than sweet- but it was intense enough that I got over wanting anything more to eat. In fact I was more than happy gulping down a big cup of herbal tea- and may have another.
Today's project highlights include a new experiment with kombucha. I bottled it using orange juice for the second ferment. I'll know in 2 days or so if it's any good. It sure sounds like a good idea though, doesn't it?
With a little time I managed to turn 7 tea bags, 1 cup of sugar, and 2 cups of orange juice into 7 bottles of kombucha. Not a bad way to make things stretch.
I wonder if it'll taste like orange soda...
But that's not the best part of my kitchen time today.
Guess what I made...
TA-DA! Baconnaise!
Isn't it beeeeeuuuuutiful?
This is going to taste absolutely amazing in mackerel salad.
In fact, it'll taste even better in egg salad!
Mmm... egg salad with bacon mayo. You really can't beat that. Even with a really big stick.
Tomorrow is my rest day. I'll be tinkering around in the kitchen mostly, and possibly treating myself to a home spa day. I really should do laundry, but I probably won't.
Here's to 2 weeks done, and 2 weeks to go!

I love the idea of biking to work! KUTGW!!
Yum! Baconnaise! <3
You know, I like rice pudding, but it's the one thing I couldn't get my kids interested in. My son is very anti-dried fruit. Weird. lol
I don't know how to make baconnaise... but it sure looks good.
Rice pudding is so yum! ... tb it isnt primal :(
and... Why are you avoiding whey? I can't really remember you stating WHY?!
Thanks ladiez!
Manda- the whey thing is simply to encourage myself to eat real food more. Otherwise this challenge would be uber easy if I could just do whey for a meal.
Ideally I'd like to cut out dairy, but I can never seem to do it either. I really look forward to milkshakes for lunch this summer!
