I am on holiday. It's Halloween and I've been celebrating for 2 days already. The last 2 days were the typical Halloween shinanigans. Friday night consisted of dressing in my current Vamp gear and being designated driver for my Lil Sis and her friends at a tiny redneck bar. Saturday we did something we've never done before and participated in our first Zombie Walk through Watkins Glen, and then we hit the bars again Saturday night, "doing the crawl" down Market Street in Corning, then finishing off at Denny's. Again I was driving for my sister and her current beau. Meh... drinking just isn't that much fun for me anymore. It's a good thing too. Just doing what I've been doing has been absolutely exhausting. Forget about even squeezing in a worthwhile workout.
Tonight, Halloween, is feast night with the family. No costumes, no candy. Just family gathering together to celebrate our loved ones that have passed, do some divination to see what the coming year will bring, and prepare ourselves for the hardships of the coming winter. One last feast before the dark of the year. That particular meaning of this dinner was apparent this afternoon when I realized it's not only cold outside, but snowing!
It's been a very busy day of cooking and cleaning, and I very much like it. I really love being all domestic and stuff. I roasted root vegetables and baked some apples with nuts, and cooked up some marrow bones. I have two large chickens in the oven now. Family members will be bringing other goodies, including squash, broccoli, and some non-Primal eats (including scalloped corn, pumpkin bread, and brownies.)
As I went out to the grocery store today, I was surprised by two cardinals. They flew in front of my car as I returned up the driveway. While I'm no fan of winter, I'm always delighted by cardinals. They're gorgeous birds, and seemily rare in this area. It's said that if a cardinal flies in front of you, it's a sign of good luck- luck I'll most gladly accept! Perhaps in our divinations I'll see if this pair of cardinals means anything more, if perhaps the number two is significant, or that they were flying east. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but one thing I've learned in my short time on this planet, is never leave a sign unread.
So here I am, sitting on my couch, kitties snuggling by my side, waiting for the chickens to cook and the family to arrive. Most of the neighborhood will be participating in the giving and receiving of candy (I don't envy them being in the cold tonight) while we perform our secret little celebration here, separate from the rest of the world. Just as it should be.
Photos will be coming soon, both of costumes and of food. Have a wonderful Halloween night everyone! Be safe.
Blessed Be.

Happy Halloween, albeit late. I'm a longtime reader, new commenter, and just wanted to say thanks for your peaceful mindset; it's just what I need right now.
Also, I love that you got kitties! :)
Thank you, Gambler, and thank you for enjoying my blog. =) Yeah, the kitties are great, even if they are rip roaring around the house just now- LOL. Thank you for speaking up. I'm so very glad you did! =)
